Most people have this intriguing image of what genres can be done online. One of the more prevalent misconceptions is that they?re all RPGs. This is blatantly untrue, even if so-called MMORPGs are the most widespread, even if they?re mislabeled by the letters ?RPG.? That?s a debate for a later date. For now, the heart of the matter is showing that there are more than just XP grinds available online, and that there are other genres people can dip into. This includes an array of strange applications of anime physics on the venerable old game, along with the raw insanity of some of the courses. After all, what sane golfer in real life would want to play 18 holes on the decks of aircraft carriers and naval destroyers floating on top of the biggest water hazard in the world?
Of course, a discussion on online gaming alternatives would not be complete without mentioning the insane number of these games that are produced in Korea or using Flash. Web-based multiplayer games have covered a wide range of genres, ranging from racing to multiplayer physics-based puzzles, similar to some fairly popular indie titles. On the Korean side, there are more MMOs than anyone can possibly care to count, alongside other genres with varying degrees of RPG elements mixed in.
