Boomers Today often Have Aging Parents and Teenagers or Young Adults?at Home. Both Generations Need You and You are In the Middle. Consider Home Care for Your Elderly Loved Ones.

Sandwich Generation Boomers are being pulled in all directions. Winter in Florida means visits by out of state family who may only see their elderly, aging or frail parents once a year.? What a shock many find about their mother or father?s physical or cognitive decline.
Meting with families is usually the best way to perform a proper assessment. Family members see for themselves what is difficult for their parents, living alone and how they are or are NOT managing.
It is the opportunity to put in place a ?starter? schedule or plan of care to assist their loved one with shopping, cooking, laundry, light housekeeping, companionship or respite care, transportation to appointments and outside activities as well as the safety of bathing, transferring and dressing assistance as needed?for someone?who is a fall risk.
If adult sons and daughters aren?t just visiting their parents or called down due to a fall, injury or advancing illness then they are pulled from their family, job and regular routine. I?ve seen clients whose? adult offspring fly down for the surgery, go back North for a family event, or to take their teens to look at schools, return to Florida after parent?s rehab or just trying to maintain their workload via?smart-phone?or computer.
The stresses, obligations and time devoted to caring for both ends of the family spectrum are real, exhausting and can have serious consequences. We at Boca Home Care Services can make planning, setting up and follow up a lot easier by streamlining both Medicare Home Health Services and non-medical, private home care for an aging parent. Whether due to cognitive (memory loss, confusion) or physical disability, a hired caregiver can make a world of difference for care, safety, companionship, nutrition/diet, medication prompts and more.
We also suggest out of state family consider a Geriatric Care Manager to help oversee and put all the pieces together for them and their parents. The GCM will act as another ?sibling? on the ground which is critical in an emergency and helpful year round.
Help is here. Planning is much preferable to Crisis Intervention so when you are visiting a parent who is 70 plus, take a good look at how they are managing their shopping, appointments, finances, housekeeping, cooking, socializing and more. It is never too early to look ahead and have a plan or a framework in place.
Boca Home Care Services in Palm Beach and Broward counties in South Florida has been doing this for 14 years and will be happy to help you with your Elder Care needs while you are caring for your aging parents, Adult children, job and life.
